chiesa di PAZZO LUPi continues to establish itself as a haven for intimate, instrument-led live music, hosting two standout jazz events and a classical repetoirein the coming weeks – JAZZLAB on Friday, 22 May, followed by Pangea String Quartet on 23 May, and then Wowo MndauQuartet on Saturday, 6 June.

JAZZLAB, an electric and experimental jazz collective, takes the stage this May for a warm, immersive evening of classic influence and expressive instrumentation. Inspired by the UK jazz scene, the group blends live instruments, analog textures and modern effects, rooted in improvisation and shaped. Their sound layers rhythm, tone and texture into something both timeless and contemporary.
Featuring Snalithemba Nkambule, Michael Zulu, Tumelo “TuKs” Mathabela, Aubrey Junior Matsila, Themba Mhlongo and Phumudzo Madula, JAZZLAB delivers a performance driven by groove, exploration and musical storytelling.

The Pangea String Quartet, a Johannesburg-based chamber ensemble will bring the string quartet repertoire to life through thoughtful, unified performances at chiesa di PAZZO LUPi. Inspired by the idea of “Pangea,” the ancient supercontinent, the group reflects a shared commitment to collaboration, mutual respect and musical excellence without boundaries.
The Pangea String Quartet will feature Serge Cuca, Elbe Roberts, Dieter Hendrincks, and Gerrit Koorsen.
Continuing the programme in June, the Wowo Mndau Quartetbrings a refined, deeply rooted jazz experience that leans into both heritage and evolution.
Wowo Mndau is part of a new generation of South African jazz musicians redefining the sound of contemporary jazz while remaining grounded in tradition. His journey began with his late uncle, who introduced him to the piano, laying the foundation for a lifelong relationship with music. He later pursued music theory at the University of South Africa (UNISA), where his understanding and love of jazz took shape.
Taking to the stage, Wowo Mndau, alongside Charles Visser, Nathaniel Swarts, and Nathan Swarts, will deliver a performance centered on musicality, interplay, and the power of live instruments. Audiences can expect a set that moves between delicate piano passages, layered harmonies, and expressive improvisation, anchored in the warmth of classic jazz traditions.
Guests are invited to settle into a warm, sun-filled setting at chiesa di PAZZO LUPi. Naturally exposed to sunlight, the space holds a gentle warmth into the evening, further complemented by outdoor heaters that create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. With light meals and freshly prepared oven grilled tomato soup with cheesy toasted Piadina fingers and a delicious range of hot foods available, the experience extends beyond the stage. Both events will have food and drinks available for purchase throughout the evening (card payments only), as well as free, secure on-site parking.
