Meet James: The human hand model AI can’t replicate

Windhoek Beer unveils a bold new campaign featuring the realest hand model
While many brands are turning to AI-generated perfection, Windhoek Beer has gone in the opposite direction, working with a content creator born with six fingers on each hand.

For over 100 years, Windhoek has been brewed with only barley, hops and water- and nothing else. 100% Real beer made according to Reinheitsgebot purity standards. So, when it came time to choose a hand to hold the bottle, Windhoek wanted someone as real as what’s inside it.

Nowadays, the most common giveaway of AI-generated images is six fingers. Windhoek took this opportunity to do something genuinely different.

Meet James [LINK TO DOCUMENTARY]. With nearly 250,000 TikTok followers and a fanbase who regularly ask if his hands are real or AI-generated, James has been answering them the same way: “I’m not AI, I’m a real guy.” This captures what Windhoek Beer stands for – making him the most authentically human hand model the brand could hope for.

The campaign flew James to Johannesburg for the photo shoot, documented in an online film that celebrates his journey, his personality and his aspirations as a creator. He isn’t shy about his hands. He’s embraced them as part of his identity – and sees this campaign as a way to grow his own voice and ambitions, including dreams of becoming a superhero character, where his hands are the hero’s power.

The campaign rolls out across print, out of home, digital and social, with James also providing content for his online audience. Every image features real hands, real beer and real story. No AI or fakery.

“Authenticity is at the core of everything Windhoek Beer stands for,” says Keval Ramraj, Marketing Manager at Windhoek Beer South Africa. “In a world where digital can easily be faked, we wanted to ground our brand in what is undeniably real.”

And to signal this 100% Real commitment to the wider creative industry – from talent to artists to production partners – Windhoek has pledged to take a stand by never using AI-generated imagery of humans or beer products in any of their ongoing brand advertising. And Heineken Beverages will enforce the requirement across all Windhoek Beer partners to ensure consistency across every touchpoint.
