The Soil is preparing to release its 5th studio album after a long hiatus, but without its founding member, Buhlebendalo Mda, who has embarked on a successful solo career. However, fans of The Soil will still be delighted as they introduce Theo Matshoba, whose exceptional vocal skills bring a refreshing energy. Theo was chosen as the replacement for Buhle during her spiritual sabbatical and is now officially the group’s third member.

Buhle has decided to leave the group to focus on her solo career and publishing company, citing the need to prioritize her mental health and personal growth. She expressed gratitude for the time she spent with The Soil, performing on various stages and at major festivals locally and internationally. Buhle mentioned her readiness to tackle the competitive music industry independently, stating, “I can never replace the time I have had with the group, but it’s time to grow and face this cutthroat industry on my own. I know I can do it.”
While Buhle pursues her solo endeavors, she remains supportive of Theo and believes she will shine in her own unique way. Buhle has also established an artist hub that caters to women, children, and queer individuals. The remaining members of The Soil, Phindo and Ntsika, who have been with Buhle since high school, acknowledged that the group will not be the same without her but expressed their support and well wishes for her new journey.

Velile Sithole, the head of Native Rhythms, is optimistic about this new chapter for The Soil and expects success for Buhle’s new venture, considering her immense talent and stage presence. The group is currently finalizing their upcoming album, with the release of their first single expected in the next two weeks. The Soil fans, affectionately known as The Soil family, can anticipate a magical experience as Theo brings her unique contribution to the group. The brothers added that they are excited about Theo’s rare gift and the dynamic it adds to the group’s creative ethos. Theo shared her excitement, recalling a social media post from 11 years ago expressing her love for The Soil and her wish for an additional member to join, not realizing at the time that she would become that member.
