As Africa’s premium beer brand and the continent’s number 1 supporter of all things Hip-Hop, Castle Lite continues to invest in the development of African Hip-Hop.
And true to the brand’s vision to leverage off of Hip-Hop music in an effort to build and develop the existing narrative of the African Hip-Hop culture, the 2019 Castle Lite Unlocks experience, on 17 and 18 June 2019, was a shrine to powerful women of the movement.
Fans of the brand will be aware that in 2018, Castle Lite introduced the historic, Hip-Hop HERStory concert – a first all-female Hip-Hop line-up in Africa. And with the evolution of Castle Lite Unlocks, women remain an integral part of the movement. From rap, to showbiz, life art, street culture, gaming and motivation, SA women proved once and for all that they can not only stand on the same ground as their male counterparts, but that they can, in fact, lead the path.
Radio & TV personality and Hip-Hop enthusiast, LootLove held down the hosting duties on the main stage while leading ladies, Moozlie and Rouge spat the coldest bars of the night during the inaugural SwayColdCyphers hosted by legendary Hip-Hop guru, Sway Calloway. Their ability to tell a story, grasp an audience’s attention and word play had fans in a frenzy.
Moozlie was only getting started as she then went on to put on extra cold solo performances on the mainstage and in the Cold Square. She’s also been identified by Castle Lite as a disruptor of the industry as she sat on a panel of all-male counterparts.
Fellow rapper, Rouge left her mark on almost every part of the Castle Lite Unlocks arena at the Dome. Not only did she partake in the cyphers, she performed in the Cold Square, she took on the fiercest gaming heads in Johannesburg and she sat on the Hip- Hop Herstory panel during the Cold Table Convos.
Rouge shared this panel with an all-female line-up of renowned power players of the movement: Ugandan media personality, Lee Kasumba, Ms Supa, Loot Love, Nadia Nakai and Boity. As if that wasn’t enough, she also formed part of the extra cold day 2 line up as the only female performer alongside Nasty C, Riky Rick, Tyla Yaweh and Post Malone.
Motswako first lady Fifi Cooper who now runs her own recording company explained during the interview that is not that easy to run a business where male dominate however, she is gratiful for those who have been showing love and support. And she explained that fans should watch the space, she is coming after everything they said she can’t.
Castle Lite and the Castle Lite Unlocks experience are committed to remaining innovative and to unlocking the hottest and most relevant Hip-Hop artists in Africa and the world. The Castle Lite brand has consistently been about breaking boundaries and it is no wonder that the women chosen to be a part of the 2019 Castle Lite Unlocks line up are women who represent a brand new era in Hip-Hop.
