Celebrating Heritage & Progress : Jabu Stone’s African Black Soap

Stepping into the launch of Jabu Stone’s African Black Soap at the Sky Hotel in Sandton felt like walking into a celebration of history and forward-thinking. The venue was stunning, a mix of elegant black and gold that perfectly matched the brand’s sophisticated new direction. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with a drink and a sense of excitement that filled the room.

Father and Son

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the presence of the founder, Jabu Stone himself. He took us on an incredible journey back to the beginning, sharing his story of starting the business in 1994, right as apartheid was ending. He spoke about his mission to promote Afrocentric beauty and natural hair care, a powerful response to Western beauty standards that had long dominated the industry. It was an insightful and inspiring look at the roots of a brand that has become a symbol of empowerment.

The event was also a testament to Jabu Stone’s commitment to the future. During a Q&A session, he introduced his son, sharing how he has been grooming him to eventually take over the business. This glimpse into the brand’s legacy was both touching and reassuring.

However, the most memorable moment of the day came from a woman living with a disability. She bravely stood up and made a heartfelt plea for more opportunities for people like her to be included in mainstream advertising. Without hesitation, Jabu Stone stood and made a public promise that she would be the first person with a disability to work with his brand. It was a powerful and emotional moment that truly showed the brand’s core values in action.

As the day wrapped up, guests were generously gifted with the new African Black Soap and a few other products to try out. It was the perfect ending to an event that was not just about a product launch, but about celebrating heritage, fostering inclusivity, and looking ahead to a more beautiful and representative future.
