For a while Kwesta has enticed us on social media about what he’s cooking in the studio. He released a snippet of the song and as expected expectation has been very high. The rapper failed to disappoint his fans when released his first single‚ Spirit‚ which features the Nigerian Born American, Wale on Wednesday to general acclaim. The hit single is one of the first international offerings off his upcoming album housed Top Notch international stars, the second seems to be “So Drunk” featuring Rick Ross.
Seems like the rapper has impressed black twitter and it made to the trends list as Twitter praised him for not compromising his sound even when he features international acts.
“As much as people might question some of my collabs and everything‚ my plan was to break down the borders. So I’m not moving towards an international sound‚ I just want break down the musical borders‚” he said
It is without a doubt that this year has been the “ Ngud”’ hit maker‘s year. The rapper has had a great year with his album Dakar 2: winning awards at both the SAMAs and Metros earlier this year, and has received great radio love. The rapper, who also worked with Rick Ross for his upcoming album, spread the news on social media
So what’s the Spirit all about?
Spirit is about going after what you want with everything you want without doubting yourself. Never listen to the external noise that something is Impossible. As long as it is in your heart then you need to chase it. Being South African, you need to represent where you come from. You need to represent that to the fullest and not let anything bring you down. You need to have the Spirit to face those dreams.
Senzo Mfundo Vilakazi, aka Kwesta explained that he’ll always stay true to his African sound but he also wanted to “break down borders musically”.
“So I am back in studio working on another album. I don’t know if you’ve seen but there has also been international collaborations that I have been doing. That doesn’t mean however that I won’t be doing collaborations with South Africans artists, I just wanna make this album a little bigger than just South Africa. So I’m pulling up all the stops,” he explained.
