Scores of students with disappointed faces  will have to forget about their dreams and stay home without tertiary education .

NSFAS was expected to change lives of  more than 405 000 students this academic year, however  NSFAS says more than 160,000 students have already received tertiary education funding.

NSFAS spokesperson Kagisho Mamabolo says there could be delays in approving some students as officials are still awaiting results from deferred university exams.

Mamabolo says returning students who have been beneficiaries will be funded automatically without applying, provided they signed their loan agreement forms and passed at least 50% of their modules. in addition it says it has already paid R1.3 billion to 26 universities nationwide to cover the registration of students.

Many universities have extended their registration days hoping to allow students to register after the NSFAS has responded however those days are now coming to an end and the classes are to commence.

Students are starting to panic and  have taken their frustrations and disappointment to the social media
