SAMRO Urges Authorities To Ensure Justice Is Done For Bongekile “Babes” Simelane

SAMROThe Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO), like the nation, is horrified by the alleged abuse of Gqom artist and SAMRO member Miss Bongekile “Babes Wodumo” Simelane by West Ink Records owner Mandla Maphumulo.

As an organisation, SAMRO condemns gender-based violence in society in general and in the music industry specifically. According to the board of SAMRO, “we are sensitive to the unique and added vulnerabilities faced by women in the music industry, which need to be addressed collectively by all pillars of the industry”.

We applaud Miss Simelane for her bravery in reaching out for help, and strongly condemn any persons who seek to shame or humiliate her.

SAMRO supports the arrest of Mr Maphumulo earlier today.

“We implore authorities to ensure that the law takes its full course and trust that the release of Mr Maphumulo on bail does not further endanger Miss Simelane. We further hope that all women at all levels of society can benefit from justice being served in this high-profile case”.SAMRO
