The Law Meets Its Match in Family. Netflix Releases the Trailer for Latest Crime-Drama, Umthetho.

Netflix unveiled the official trailer for Umthetho, the gripping seven-episode South African drama launching exclusively on Netflix on 14 August 2026. Public prosecutor Mbali Dlamini (Nqobile Nunu Khumalo) is on a collision course with iGazlam’ – The Brotherhood – a ruthless prison syndicate run from the shadows by the very brother she had spent fourteen years mourning as dead.

It starts with a case that seems worlds away from her own life. It ends with Mbali standing in the wreckage of everything she believed about her family. A decade after she was told her brother, Moses (Tony Kgoroge), died behind bars, he resurfaces – a hardened survivor, reshaped by the system that swallowed him, with a warning for his sister: the brother she once knew is gone. As a wave of violence tears through the city, every trail leads back to him.

Pulled further into this perilous web, Mbali receives a chilling directive: “get your brother out of the hole.” What follows is a high-stakes, gun-drawn surge of violence which exposes how far the Brotherhood is willing to go, and how far Mbali may have to go with them. Detective Bennet Tau (Molefi Monaisa), Guard Setchaba (Obed Baloyi) and Agnes Khoza (Sindi Dlathu), the prison’s Head of Centre, are all drawn into the fallout, as the line separating Mbali’s duty to the law from her loyalty to the family that broke it begins to disappear entirely.

Umthetho – isiZulu for “The Law” – asks the question at the heart of every South African family that has ever been failed by the system: when the law and your blood pull in opposite directions, which one do you obey?

Umthetho is an adaptation of the Netflix Brazilian series Brotherhood, and premieres exclusively on Netflix on 14 August 2026.
