If you are a house music fan, you will agree with me when I say 2017 has been a blissful year for Black Coffee.
With all the accolades and street cred money can’t buy, it’s really hard to believe that it’s been more than a decade since Black Coffee muscled his way into the music industry. Yazi, it is true when they say when something is yours,nobody will take it away.I mean you’d think that he has decades behind him in the music industry given how integral he has become to the house music scene. He is a pioneer who has rewritten the rules and has never been held back by circumstances or even bad press.
It’s been two days and congratulatory messages are still pouring all over the world for DJ Black Coffee for scooping yet another international award during the 20th Annual DJ Awards, which took place on the 26 September 2017.
Coffee took it to his Instagram to share the news with his fans and followers. Obviously ,i saw this while stalking his socials.
Mchana, you might be wondering what the awards are all about and maybe ankere because you also want to slay and be nominated one day, bona! .
The DJ Awards is a celebration of the electronic music scene and aims to recognise and honour DJ’s and individuals who have influenced electronic dance music worldwide. The awards are held annually in Ibiza at the end of the Northern hemisphere’s summer and have retained the same ethics since the inception of the awards in 1998.

When most of ya’ll were busy making new resolutions which you knew you won’t be able to keep,in January 2017, the biggest story was that DJ Black Coffee and the beautiful Mbali Mlotshwa celebrated their white wedding. The wedding was attended by A-list celebrities and some government officials. By invitation only!!!
In February, the international DJ whose real name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo collaborated with an Italian shoe brand to make his own pair of sneakers.
Black Coffee posted on his Instagram profile that he has collaborated with an Italian shoe company on a sneaker collection that will be coming soon.I don’t know about but i was moved !
In March when the multi-Grammy-award-winning rapper Drake released his latest offering “More Life” he featured our very own Black Coffee’s Superman (feat. Bucie), only that he replaced her vocals with Jorja Smith .If that was not enough amongst the many artists in the playlist, the collaboration song made it to Beyoncé’s wedding anniversary playlist.I mean Queen B danced to his song,who in mzansi have you heard that his/her song made it to the top list of play list?
Then in April renowned DJ Coffee joined the Axe deodorant brand as an ambassador. Yazi, at first ,i thought it was April fool until i saw every newspapers running with the headlines.
In May when Forbes released its list of Richest African musicians Black Coffee Made it to spot number 2.The list was put together using factors such as endorsement value, popularity, show rates, sales, awards, YouTube views, appearance in newspapers, investment, social media presence, influence and others.
In July Black Coffee followed in the footsteps of music icons like Drake, Dr Dre and Pharrell Williams by scoring his own radio show on Apple’s Beats 1 radio station.
Seven years back i had 20 minutes opportunity to interview him,initially i requested just 10mn but the conversation was lit,. I must say it felt like a dream.He was so down to earth and at first i was so nervous and he told me to chill and have fun and take it as if i’m having a chat with a friend.
