@CassperNyovest Aka Mufasa, Made History And Continues To Be An Epitome Of Black Excellence.

You can either love him or hate him but the fact remains his name is undeniable, he is a mover and a shaker, he is a go-getter , a true hustler and most of all he is a history maker. On the night of 05 December 2017 Hell froze and angels came down to earth to witness the  Multi-award winning South African artist and entrepreneur, Cassper Nyovest aka Mufasa, as he made history when he filled up FNB Stadium to a capacity of 68 000 people. And i took my best friends to witness this historic moment. The experience left me in goosebumps for days.24775216_1552638141490943_6659193071675557985_n.jpg

The 26-year-old has proven he is a big, big dreamer and he is an epitome of black excellence. In 2015, he filled up the 20,000 capacity Ticketpro Dome, a first for a local artist. He topped this in 2016, ‘filling up’ the Orlando Stadium in Soweto with approximately 40,000 people .This year 2017 he filled up the FNB Stadium. The famous Soccer City or FNB Stadium has played host to the FIFA World Cup Final, as well as the African Cup of Nations and Madiba’s iconic first speech after leaving prison. It is the 5th largest stadium in the world and the largest in Africa.

24294192_1545256468895777_6267969882853796909_nCassper Nyovest’s “Fill Up” concept was birthed from the notion that South Africa musicians cannot fill up stadiums without an international act and Cassper Nyovest wanted to dispute that. The definition of “Fill Up” is more than the physical counting of seats but breaking barriers and making history by filling up stadiums to capacities never reached before by a South Africa act in the last two decades and in South African history by a Hip Hop artist.

Cassper Nyovest’s audacity to dream big and take the first steps himself to making his dreams a reality, will forever be written in the history books of South Africa. Cassper Nyovest has changed the music landscape of what is possible for a local act to achieve, and with enough self-determination and support from the country, has proven that local musicians filling up stadiums in South Africa is no longer a dream but a reality he has proven three times over

However, the rapper is not the only artist who has attempted to fill up FNB.

Brenda Brenda Fassie – who was once called “Madonna of the Townships” by Time magazine has also attempted to fill up FNB. Even though she did not perform at the FNB stadium, Fassie hosted over 60,000 fans during a live performance, well before the rise of technology. ‘MaBrrr’ gave one of the most memorable performances to date by a South African musician.

Lady Gaga came to South Africa in 2012 as part of her Born This Way Ball Tour, which was held at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Her fans did come in their numbers but she did not manage to completely cram it full.

Rihanna is one of most famous musicians to grace the FNB Stadium. Her 2013 Diamonds World Tour included her hit single “Diamonds” and South Africans came in their numbers. The attendance at FNB stood at 65,000.

One Direction clocked a capacity of 131,000 at the FNB Stadium over a two-day period. On its first day, the group performed to 68,000 fans and the following day to another 63,000.

Irish rock band U2 recorded the most number of fans for an official concert when more than 90,000 filled the stadium in 2011. To date, no other musician or band has reached audiences higher than this at FNB stadium.

Bono and his crew, therefore, hold the record at the iconic stadium.

The David & Goliath historic journey saw a determined young man from Mahikeng with a vision and dream take on this event with the intent of backing it up with every last cent he had, to entering game day with even more sponsors than previously mentioned.

Cassper Nyovest’s Fill Up FNB Stadium was supported by the following innovating and empowering brands who believed in his vision and dream: SABC 1, Cîroc, Standard Bank, Budweiser, Sprite and The Department of Arts and Culture.24174307_1547114778709946_4266076469407929527_n

The spectacular event saw Cassper Nyovest put on a Lion King inspired production with 12 meter high “Mufasa” lions as prominent focal points. The stage and production were highlights for many and certainly raised the bar not only for music concerts on the continent but globally.24819232_1982310455349779_1180155744_o (1).jpg

Cassper Nyovest’s performance on Saturday night also proved testament to his artistic ability and versatility as a world class musician and performing artist. The 50 plus man show saw his performance set fused with street kids he recently found dancing that blew him away, Zulu dancers, models and a full band positioned in cages at the top of the stage.

Cassper Nyovest’s Fill Up FNB Stadium had a support line up of some of the biggest acts in the country such as Kwesta, Riky Rick, DJ Tira, Babes Wodumo, and Black Motion just to name a few and his performance set also included the hottest new wave of talent from the likes of Nadia Nakai, Tshego and Destruction Boyz. There were so many pricelss moments through out the night but mine are as follows”

The highlights of the night :

when he asked everybody to switch on their cellphone flashlights,
