South Africans share their real reasons for making time for each other

Windhoek Lager’s first Midweek Session brought people together at Katy’s Palace Bar, with 340ml taking the stage as 330ml for the night.

On Wednesday, 9 September, South Africans traded the usual midweek rush for live music, good company and a cold Windhoek Lager as the brand hosted its first Midweek Session at Katy’s Palace Bar in Kramerville, Sandton.

The evening celebrated the return of Windhoek Lager’s 330ml bottle and gave people a simple reason to make time for one another during the week. Headlining the session was iconic Mozambican band 340ml, which temporarily became 330ml for the campaign while keeping the four original members, their sound and their unmistakable creative chemistry unchanged.

Throughout the night, guests were invited to answer one question: “What’s your reason this week?” Their responses captured the moments that can turn an ordinary Wednesday into something worth remembering, from reconnecting with an old friend to showing up for someone who needed company.

Guest reasons captured on the night included:

•  ”Because I’m getting married on Saturday and wanted to start the celebrations early! – Thabo Letsoalo”

•  “I’m a big fan of 340ml, so getting to see them live as 330ml for the night – was a great reason to get out on a Wednesday. – Thembisa Zulu”

• “I’ve followed 340ml for years, so seeing them lean into becoming ‘330ml’ for the night was the cleverest excuse I’ve had for a midweek beer in a long time. A cold Windhoek Lager, a band in on their own joke, and a Wednesday that didn’t feel like a Wednesday. That’s a great reason worth getting out for – Shaun Mckenzie”

The shared reasons reflected the idea at the heart of the campaign: people do not need a major occasion to get together. Sometimes, the best reason is simply making time for the people who matter.

Keval Ramraj, Marketing Manager at Windhoek Beer South Africa said the first Midweek Session brought the 330ml return to life through a moment grounded in genuine connection: “The return of the 330ml Lager bottle gave us an opportunity to remind people what Windhoek has always stood for – real beer enjoyed with real people. Tonight was about making space in the middle of a busy week to reconnect, share a reason and enjoy great South African music together. Seeing those reasons come to life made the evening especially meaningful.”

340ml band member, Tiago Correia-Paulo, said: ‘’We need more reminders that we always thrive better as a community, and that we should get together as often as possible to celebrate each other. The simple fact is, we’re all in this together!”
