In June 2016 myself and scores of food writers across South Africa got invited to a cocktail party to share our culinary knowledge and skills. Ours was simple, we just had to dine and wine and then put it on paper. Not only was the invitation fancy but written in bold gold letters “BRING YOUR EMPTY STOMACH AND GET YOUR TASTE BUDS READY TO BE DELIGHTED”. The event was nothing but fantastic culinary event featured Yummy Food, Fascinating History, and Culinary Decadence! Each of the participating restaurants were among the finest in South Africa. The room was full the aroma.
As we were tweeting and taking foodfie (taking pictures of our dishes ) the hidden cameras were rolling to capture every facial expression as we taste each dish, and record every ridiculous conversation influenced by the special cocktails twist which were created using coffee “Nescafe Gold”,vodka, Frangelico,Kahlua just perfect for sipping whilst absorbing the culinary atmosphere.
And the beer lovers we served their meal with Amstel or sparkling Champaign surrounded by tantalizing street food scene. While enjoying good company, I realized that the street food scene has greatly expanded in recent years as the challenge to create an ever more fascinating explosion of taste grows. I was blown to a wide range of unusual and amazingly presented street food.
I can say without a doubt that Mexican food is so fresh and easy to make- think hot quesadillas, piles of nachos and spicy beans and crunchy tacos, I found myself wrapped my taste buds in the Thai cuisine, but then again I enjoyed traditional Italian dishes with classics such as lasagna, and regional specialities. Most foodies took home the famous dishes from American popular culture, from burgers and ribs to soul food.
just when we thought the event is over and started to exchange contacts ,heaven came to earth,to us.Insanely decadent dessert. For a second i stopped the denial and admit to myself that My secret indulgent food is dessert. I have an incredible sweet tooth period!!!If you want to impress me just invite me over for anything sweet.
