Mixed emotions over Matheba’s Uganda gig

Gay rights activists took to social media yesterday to slam at the well-known and most respected South African female media mogul, Bonang Matheba. This after, news travel that Queen B is alleged to have agreed to host the 2nd annual Uganda Entertainment Awards, despite the fact that the country’s government is homophobic.

On the 09 May 2016, around 22:24pm Bonang shared a post from the @UgWeekly social network that read as follows:

South African Model & TV Personality Bonang Matheba to host Uganda Entertainment Awards Red Carpet experience on August 19th 2016 at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

Bonang has been known to keep a close-knit circle of homosexual friends, including her make-up artist Muzi Zuma, who she often travels along with. The question is would she travel with him this time around…if the rumours are true?

About two years ago President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda signed a law that not only outlawed homosexual acts, but also compelled citizens to report suspected homosexual activity to the police, triggering increased levels of prejudice, violence and discrimination against the gay community.

Some say Bonang is entitled to reject or accept any kind of a job she wants because at the end she has to pay the bills.

On the other hand some gays say they hoping that she would use her status and become a voice to the voiceless in Uganda.

I believe that Queen B has every right to do any job she wants, however we hope that this is a first step to make a difference and change in Uganda. She is very influential and we hope she will speak out for gays during the awards ceremony

If you have been keeping an eye on the story, share your opinion with us…Should Bonang reject or accept to Host the 2nd annual Uganda Entertainment Awards?
