The South African hip-hop star Cassper Nyovest team, got served yesterday as they were booed and kicked out of the North West University Mafikeng campus. Their aim to visit the campus was,” as always” to promote Cassper’s music and his big concert that is set to take place this Friday in Mafikeng.Caaper also came to the campus last year for the radio interview.
“Cassper is a Mafikeng born and recite in the same town where the university is situated but he went to donate about R50 000 to Wits University”
The rage students says they cannot continue to support the “inconsiderate Cassper” who did not show any support during the #FundNWU campaign earlier during the year. The aim of the campaign was to raise money for the students who could not be allowed back to study due to their outstanding balance.
A third year students alleges that Cassper always come to the campus to promote his music but he has never give out discount to his tickets sales or free gifts, such as tickets and cd’s to student like other artists.
Although the Cassper bus tour was not welcome to the University by some students, his fans says they will continue to show their support and stand by him.
“Cassper has every right to donate his money to anyone he wants,he worked for it, just because his from Mafikeng doesn’t mean he is forced to donate money to the university.
One student activist ,Diale Phiri says North-West artists must learn from the legendary Motswako pioneer,HHP.
The award winning, motswako pioneer, HHP ( real name Jabulani Tsambo),shot an awareness song PASOPA at his home town . The music video was shot with the students after the NWU Mafikeng Campus being faced with a series of protest, which has led to the campus building being torched and the closing of the campus. The protest captured the eye of the media.
Passopa which is an Afrikaans word meaning be warned, was created as an awareness song to the injustice that took place in the university and the aim was to unite student who were disgruntled by the protest. HHP came out strongly to condemn the violence in his hometown told students that they were burning their legacy, which generations before them fought for.
I don’t see a point why should this be a problem to us……Casper has shown support to the students by donating to wits…..we should be greatful because it is not about which university for we are all south Africa students….if your brother somewhere in the country gets something and you don’t….you have to be greatful…..for you shall get yours when the time is right
