South African actress Nambitha Ben-Mazwi is marking a decade in the entertainment industry with A Decade of Excellence, an evening celebrating her journey from corporate life to acting and her contribution to African representation on the global stage.
Taking place on Tuesday, 10 November 2026, at Artistry in Johannesburg, the celebration will feature a screening of Tatort: Könige der Nacht, the Swiss crime film in which Ben-Mazwi plays Moya Alemu, an undocumented bicycle courier whose decision to speak up after witnessing a murder puts her future at risk.
The film recently attracted 7.18 million viewers in Germany, representing almost a 30% market share. In Switzerland, it drew an average of 395,000 viewers and a 34% market share, according to broadcaster SRF’s official results.
Directed by Claudio Fäh and produced by Zurich-based Contrast Film, Tatort: Könige der Nacht forms part of the long-running Tatort crime franchise.
Ben-Mazwi secured her role after a casting search that extended across Europe and several African countries. Starring alongside Carol Schuler and Anna Pieri Zuercher, she also had to learn Swiss German within a matter of weeks.
For the actress, bringing the film home is about more than celebrating an international achievement. It is an opportunity to recognise the people who supported her journey, particularly as she navigated the transition from corporate life to pursuing acting.
Reflecting on the milestone, Ben-Mazwi shared that she wanted to make her tenth anniversary special while honouring the colleagues, mentors, casting directors, agents and loved ones who helped shape her career.
After seeing the film’s success in Europe, she felt it was the perfect opportunity to share the project with audiences and supporters back home who have encouraged her commitment to advancing African representation internationally.
Affectionately known as Lady Nam, Ben-Mazwi has built an impressive screen career, with credits including Netflix’s Savage Beauty, Happiness Ever After and Black Mirror, as well as Showmax’s action drama Empini and Beyoncé’s visual album Black Is King. Her recent work also includes Invisible, a series based on the work of author Deon Meyer.
In 2025, she appeared as a special guest and speaker at the Zurich Film Festival’s Leading FeMales NextGen event, where she shared her career journey with emerging filmmakers.
Beyond acting, Ben-Mazwi is an entrepreneur and advocate. A University of Cape Town Business Science Honours graduate, she founded NambithaBM Media and #SheSpeaksByLadyNam, a women’s empowerment platform focused on helping women find their voices and live with purpose.
Her advocacy also centres on the representation and celebration of dark-skinned women and girls.
A Decade of Excellence will feature a screening of Tatort: Könige der Nacht, followed by a conversation with Ben-Mazwi exploring her international role and her journey from corporate life into the entertainment industry.
The evening will also serve as a thank-you to the people who believed in her, offered guidance and supported her throughout her career.
Supported by Youthful Living, Jetour, Moët & Chandon, Artistry and She Speaks by Lady Nam, the celebration marks both a significant career milestone and an opportunity to share the international work shaping her next chapter with the audiences who have followed her journey.
