Fearless, bold and restless these are three words to describe the former netball coach, Sunday school teacher and now the brand ambassador of Miss Eagle South Africa 2018, representing the North-West province,Thembi Hlalele.
This final year law student is determined to change the wrong perception or the stigmas attached to women who participate in pageants, that they are superficial and possibly vapid. However, Thembi is an intelligent and inspiring woman who encourages women to make their dreams a reality while also empowering the community, especially children and young girls.
Prior Miss Eagle South Africa Thembi was crowned Miss Jnr SA 2013, 4th place Miss Phenomenal Gauteng 2017, Miss Postmansburg and many more other local pageants.
When Guy-Gal Conner asked Thembi what does it mean to be part of such a pageant ,this is what she had to say “ Having entered MESA I get to make a mark and to change lives on a larger scale by using the title to teach young black girls self-acceptance and to remind them about self-worth, that we are all unique queens with different crowns . I get to inspire and be inspired by their backgrounds and to continue to remind others that is not about where you from but where you can do and where you go”.
Miss Eagle South Africa, also known as MESA is an online pageant about “beauty with brains and purpose” encouraging women to be good and help others to do well. It is a pageant where a platform is provided to empower young women to grow and develop themselves by making a positive impact in their communities.
Thembi will compete in the MESA pageant against other beautiful hopefuls on 15 December 2018 at Sandton Convention Centre, in Gauteng. The public is encouraged to show support and love by voting for their favourite Miss Eagle South Africa representative.
