uBettina (Betty), everyone’s favourite bestie, returns to our screens in a more quirky, funny, self-assured, and motivated way than ever. uBettina Wethu, Season 2 will broadcast on SABC 1 from Monday 15th August 2022 at 19h30 and ViuAVOD at the same time. The series will be on air every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 19h30 weekly.

uBettina Wethu is a dramedy an adaptation of the Colombian series Yo Soy Betty La Fea, a television drama successfully adapted for local audiences in 19 countries – including the US adaptation and global hit, Ugly Betty. uBettina Wethu, exciting Season 2 breaks all television conventions, with some clear casting changes and a unique funding model, inclusive of brand partners Standard Bank and AMKA. The project is a beneficiary of financial support from the Department of Trade Industry & Competition.
The world currently has twenty Bettys; South Africa and the rest of Africa is about to meet Betty number 21 who undoubtedly will bring a glittering glow up to our screens in Season 2, portrayed by Kamogelo Molatlhoe (previously on The Wife). Another change sees UBettina Wethu’s producers learning from the James Bond school of casting by changing the leading man Dingaan Jiyane to Lunga Tshabalala (The River). “We had to consider on-screen chemistry, for our new Betty, when Lunga and Kamo came together on screen we realized it was magic at first sight,” says the series producer Tshepiso Chikapa Phiri, CEO of Known Associates Entertainment.
Additional changes on season 2 include Itumeleng Bokaba(Rhythm City) who joins the series as Zaza, Hungani Ndlovu (previously on Scandal!) – playing Betty’s new love interest Duma whilst Nimrod Nkosi joins the cast as Dingaan’s devious estranged dad in a case of Khumbule ekhaya and lastly Abby Molz comes on board as Nubia’s new and always-on-point receptionist, Sindi!
“After working hard to bring back this family favourite to South African TV screens, we’re thrilled to announce season two of uBettina Wethu. We trust that our viewers who journeyed with us during the first season will be back for more provoking content and good laughter, and we look forward to enthralling our new audiences”, concludes Known Associates Entertainment, co-founder and producer of the show Tshepiso Chikapa Phiri.
“Partnership is the foundation of the success of uBettina Wethu. Known Associates is proud to announce our collaboration with Standard Bank, a financial institution committed to financial education and AMKA, a cosmetic giant who returns having partnered with on season 1 thus complementing the continued support of our anchor broadcasting partners Viu South Africa and the SABC’, concludes Phiri.
“Standard Bank also understands that customers continuously want to improve their financial health, which is covered by the show. For this reason, it supports the storyline which highlights the perils of spending money too easily, getting into debt or being exploited financially by others. Standard Bank believes in creating a better tomorrow today which requires us to be honest, reflective, and proactive about money conversations,” said Itumeleng Matlaila, Standard Bank’s Head of Main Market & Youth.
AMKA is excited to once again be partnering with local hit TV series uBettina Wethu, for their much-anticipated season two. Last year fans and viewers followed the exciting Clere For Men, Playboy and Playgirl storylines integrated into the show, and this year they’ll be treated to more from their favourite AMKA brands, namely; Clere Gly-Co-Oil, Playboy, Satiskin, Lip-Ice and Lemon Lite. “We received such an amazing response last year that we’re hoping to create as much hype about this collaboration again across social media,” says Themba Ndlovu, Clere For Men and Clere Gly-Co-Oil brand manager.
“Viu South Africa is proud of the role that it has played as a co-producer with the SABC in bringing season two of uBettina Wethu to local TV screens. As a streaming service that is focused on offering our subscribers access to world-class entertainment, we believe that we have a role to play in helping build the local production industry, says Ryan Solovei, CEO of VIU South Africa. “We are committed as a supplier of value-added, relevant material to be considering becoming possibly more active in producing local content and adding our international experience to bring quality shows to our subscribers.”
“In this season the show explores Bettina’s world a little more. Betty is faced with challenges that young women go through daily, in having to navigate through life and self-discovery. The channel is all about mirroring the challenges and the progression of the youth in South Africa. We are thrilled about what is in store for the viewers in season two, we see the introduction of new characters and how the dynamics unfold.” Acting Channel Head – Thulisile Nhlapo.
