E.tv’s The Black Door Brings You Umemulo

The celebrated late-night show on e.tv previously dubbed as “adults only”, has changed themes to focus on real life people and relatable stories, such as UMEMULO.

The Black Door which took over the 9.30PM weekdays slot previously owned by IMBEWU on e.tv, will now be changing its narrative and themes with a strong focus on family, love, social conversations, culture and tradition.

A beautiful start to this is in the story of Nandi Mkhize, a character played by Sibonginkosi Tenza, where we witness a moving celebration of culture, this Wednesday, 6 July at 9.30PM.

Nandi is a virgin yearning for intimacy with her newfound love Khaya, a character played by Zamani Mbatha. She can’t wait for Khaya to deflower her, and requests for her parents to grant her the key to her womanhood.

This Wednesday, The Black Door shares a cultural celebration of a young woman’s coming of age.

Some call this moment a “21st Party” but Nandi’s family, the Mkhizes, are going all out and throwing the best UMEMULO celebration the community of eMalahleni has ever seen.

UMEMULO, known as the “coming of age”, is an important Zulu ritual that celebrates a young girl’s journey into womanhood.

The ceremony indicates that the young girl has transitioned from a child into an adult of marriageable age.

The rituals entail the slaughtering of a cow and the traditional Zulu dance, UKUSINA, which involves a spear and includes the guests gifting the young female with money and other blessings.

UMEMULO is a sign to the community that the father recognises his daughter is now an adult and that any prospective husband wanting to ask for her hand in marriage may now approach.

Will Khaya pop the question immediately?

Witness this epic moment on Wednesday 6 July, 9.30PM on e.tv #TheBlackDoor #UMEMULO
