Get To Know The People’s Park “Seleke Park” In Koffiekraal  

Little more than an hour’s drive from Mafikeng, in the North West Province, is the picturesque recreational backyard Park in Koffiekraal. Founded in 1997 by Mr Israel and Mrs Maria Seleke, the two local entrepreneurs named the garden after their surname Seleke Park. There is something undoubtedly magical about it was built by hands from sketch by Mr Seleke. The idea came as the result of lack of recreational facilities in the community, prior the existence of the park youth in and around Koffiekral would drove 100km away to look for entertainment or to look for recreational alternatives.  Seleke Park has become more than green space in the midst of a concrete dry rural environment ,city dwellers and tourists alike park becomes a shared backyard. “It’s a place to meet friends; it’s a place to have celebrations with families. Visitors unwind and step back in time as they stroll through the village’s oak-lined lanes, past free-roaming cows and donkeys. It’s not surprising that the Selke’s garden is full of beautiful flowers, trees and livestock , Mrs Seleke who is an award farmer winner, has put her farming skills into practice and turn her park into  a mosaic of open rich variety of plants and wildlife, some rarely seen in the region.21763577_1945007605746731_1602900661_n

With today’s fast-track pace of life, Seleke Park was  the perfect place  for Sisi Segalo,the radio journalist and I to step away from the rat race and reconnect with nature and welcome spring the best way.

The park is also well known for hosting annual events such as valentine celebration, Christmas celebration and continues to be popular to host family gatherings, weddings and school farewells.
